Missing daddy...

Madi and I are sure missing daddy...
He left last night for Atlanta to attend Drive 2011. He will be back sometime late Wednesday night, but until then I am a single parent for the week. And I must say, I do appreciate the fact that I have a husband who walks in the door every night at 5. Jeezzz, how I miss him :(

It has been quite the day here in the Woodlief household. Lots of crying and lots of holding! Some times I wonder how I even get through the day, but we always seem to manage. Madi is finally sitting in her Bumboo, upright with no support from me whatsoever. Very, very exciting I have to say!

Here are few pictures to capture the precious moments without tears!

So it's been a while....

So sorry about the lack of blogging, but the computer has been a bit out of commission! Thank goodness we are back now! Some important developments over the past 2 weeks:

  • Madi has started eating cereal out of a spoon. Practice makes perfect right?
  • Although we have not proven that Madi has an allergy to milk protein, I am keeping to my suspicions and we have switched to her a completely milk free formula.
  • We have had many, many play dates with great friends!
  • Madi has gained over 1 1/2 lbs, weighing in at 13pounds 9 ounces!

Back to the drawing board

Want to know the worst feeling in the world? To know your child is sick and hurting. What to know the second worst feeling in the world? Feeling as though your pediatrician does not care enough to put forth a little effort to help resolve the situation.

This is where I was on Wednesday. It started in the morning. I went to get Madi out of her crib and she was covered in vomit. Seriously, no exaggeration- in her eyes, nose, ears, and covering her face. Not safe whatsoever. I litterally had to suction it out of her nose. After a full day of crying/screaming and Madi vomiting on me 11 times that night, I was through being nice and polite  in my attempts to desperately get a doctor to help us. So I emailed a doctor that has taken the lead on this issue (not her regular peds). To my surprise he took my "wrath" pretty well! (I wasn't too harsh!) He asked us to bring her in today so that he could reevaluate her situation and hopefully give us some much needed answers.

After Dr. Prine evaluated her, he concluded that her case has consistantly gotten worse. She might infact being allergic to the cow's protein in her formula. While that sounds like a simple fix, you cannot simply switch to soy based formula because being allergic to the protein is different that being lactose intolerant. She would need to be put on a special hypoallergenic formula that is extremely expensive.  When I was nursing, I actually suspected this. Being a new mom, I did not want to call up the doc's office and give them any reason to believe that I was a hypochondriac, so we just proceeded to do nothing. Looking back, I wish I had just toughed out my pride and called. So that's one option.

While we narrow down what's causing all the distress we are going to up her Prevacid to a full tablet (15mg) a day. Hopefuly this will give a little more relief. He is also going to set up an appointment at Vanderbilt to see a ped's GI specialist. Praying that God will direct everything and we will all get some relief. It has been a hard 3 months....

Please be praying for us as we try and tackle this issue. Joshua and I have decided to part take in the Daniel fast as we focus on the issues with Madi.  We are trying desperately to give it to God and let him do what only he can do, which is much easier said than done. We are both so emotionally and physically exhausted, that we are so anxious to hear some positive news. Her next evaluation will be a week from today!

Baby Einstein and Nanny

As you can see from the pictures above, Madi had such a sweet time with her Nanny and, of course, Baby Einstein. She has grown very, very fond of this collection! She sat for over an hour and watched, laughed, giggled, and "talked" to the computer screen. She was in an exceptionally good mood and I am so grateful for the memories we made with Nanny yesterday! She loves her beyond words...

Sweet daddy time

As I rushed around the house sweeping, vacuuming, moping, and the rest of the business with the morning, I managed to capture some sweet moments with Josh and Madison. I think you will agree they are so precious!

so many things to celebrate today

First and foremost congrats to Jennifer and Ryan who gave birth (well Jenn) to a beautiful 7lb 8oz baby girl at 1:30p.m. today! After some pretty intense labor and a virtually natural birth, Jenn is doing wonderful and recovering well. (With the help of lettuce wraps and spicy chicken from P.F. Changs!) I was so proud of Ryan and Jenn! They will be wonderful parents, again, to Mercy Millard! I am so grateful to Christy for taking Madi all day (literally 8am-6:30pm) so that I could be there to support Ryan and Jennifer!

On another wonderful note, Madi is 3 months old today. This makes Mercy and Madi officially 3months apart! I cannot wait to see them grow as best friends. May the spirit of community that we have with Ryan and Jenn and their beautiful children reside in our children as they grow and mature together.  Here are some pictures to capture our day!
